Antoine Rousse is a physicist working in the field of laser-matter interaction and plasma physics. He's spent most of his research activities on the site of the Ecole Polytechnique - ENSTA in Palaiseau. After his University education (Jussieu Paris VII, Orsay Paris XI, PhD Thesis at LULI and LOA) and one year postdoctoral position at RIKEN (Tokyo, Japan), he joined the Laboratory of Applied Optics LOA in 1995 to carry out his research program.

He has been working in the development of ultrafast X-ray sources produced by laser-plasma interaction and their applications: production of the first source of femtosecond X-rays (Phys. Rev.. E 1994), the demonstration of the technique of femtosecond X-ray diffraction (Nature 1998, Rev. Mod. Phys. 2001) to monitor the dynamics of material structure with femtosecond time resolution, the first observation (Nature 2001) of ultrafast structural dynamics using an X-ray pulse (solid-liquid phase transition in a semiconductor), the demonstration a compact laser-based synchrotron source to produce collimated and ultrafast X-rays (Phys. Rev. Lett. 2004, Nature Physics 2008). This work has been published in more than 80 articles and presented over 50 invited lectures (2009).
